6 weeks!

Time is starting to go by a little faster! As long as I have something to look forward to in the following week (aka every Friday) it seems to pass the time. I am 6 weeks along today! I've had a bad cough for about 4-5 days now and I'm starting to get to the pregnancy symptom of being nauseous. It's not too bad yet, but I hear the 7th week is when it really starts to kick in.

Baby at 6 weeks: This week our little one is starting to develop facial features! He has little black dots where his eyes are and the formation of his nose, ears and mouth begins! He has little stubs for arms and legs and is beginning to look like a human now!  :)  He has a really large head and a trunk. His heart is beating on its own and if I had an ultrasound this week they might even be able to detect it this early!

I still haven't heard back from my insurance about seeing the OB/GYN. I'm thinking at this rate I won't get in for my first appointment until I'm done with my first trimester! haha Hopefully not...

Kyle and Missy sent us a wonderful box with a couple books, a belly measurer, card and picture frame for when baby is born, 3,6,9, and 12 months old! Ahhh!!! It's making this all so real! I can't believe we're actually pregnant!!! :)))

Here's my 6 week picture!

This is what little baby looks like now!  Isn't he perfect?! Well minus the fingers and toes, he really won't have those until next week.

5 weeks today!

5 weeks! 4/22/11

At 5 weeks along the baby is the size of a sesame seed and he looks like a tadpole. He's now made up of three layers — the ectoderm, the mesoderm, and the endoderm — which will later form all of his organs and tissues.
The neural tube — from which your baby's brain, spinal cord, nerves, and backbone will sprout — is starting to develop in the top layer, called the ectoderm. This layer will also give rise to his skin, hair, nails, mammary and sweat glands, and tooth enamel.
His heart and circulatory system begin to form in the middle layer, or mesoderm. (This week, in fact, his tiny heart begins to divide into chambers and beat and pump blood.) The mesoderm will also form your baby's muscles, cartilage, bone, and subcutaneous (under skin) tissue.
The third layer, or endoderm, will house his lungs, intestines, and rudimentary urinary system, as well as his thyroid, liver, and pancreas. In the meantime, the primitive placenta and umbilical cord, which deliver nourishment and oxygen to your baby, are already on the job.

Picture update!

These are the little sandals I picked up from Target yesterday. I just realized that newborn baby won't be wearing sandals in December when he/she is born, so we're sending them to daddy so he can have a little baby momento.

These were the 3 pregnancy tests I took on Saturday! I think we're pregnant!  haha

Beginning belly pic- I wish I could say that was the beginning of a baby bump but that's just the result of too many hamburgers. haha!

The super faint positive test we took on Thursday, April 14. I bet on the blog you can't see the second line, but it was there!!

p.s.- Happy birthday Katy!!!

The Big News!

The wonderful news has finally leaked! Today our immediate family received Easter cards with news that we were egg-specting! Everyone was so happy for us. It couldn't have been better.

We found out we were pregnant Thursday, April 14. Jake actually took the test for me, came back a couple minutes later to check out the results. At first he said it was negative then he studied the test a little harder and noticed a faint second line. He handed the test to me and it was confirmed, we were finally pregnant! Jake was a little uneasy about the second line being so faint so I had a blood test done the next day. We didn't get our results back the same day so on Saturday I took 3 more tests which all came back clearly positive! Jake could finally rest easy knowing we were in fact having a baby.

We had a good feeling about this month. I knew I was pregnant probably about a week after I ovulated. Of course there were a couple days I questioned it but I had all the symptoms. Tender breasts, extreme fatigue, headaches, sensitivity to smell, you name it I probably had it.

As you all may know, Jake can't be here for the first half of the pregnancy. He left Monday, April 18 for school out in North Carolina and will be gone until August. He's extremely upset he can't be here, but we'd rather him be missing this part than the birth of our child. I don't have my doctors appointment scheduled yet, it probably won't be until I'm 7-9 weeks along. Oh ya, I forgot to tell you all, as of today, we're 4 weeks and 4 days along with a due date of December 23! Yes, that's correct, the 23rd! We're going to have the busiest last week and a half of each year than anyone you've ever met with baby's birthday, Christmas, my birthday and our wedding anniversary! God just planned it all that way.

Jake and I are so excited to be sharing the news with you all. Although not many people will be reading this until we announce our pregnancy to extended family and friends in June, we thought you all would really enjoy reading the ups and downs of this pregnancy! Hopefully I can update this on a regular basis.

We love you all!

Love,

Mommy, Daddy and Baby Lester
